Magical items are a type of items found in Divinity: Original Sin 2
Description
[edit | edit source]Magical items are a type of item primarily used in and for combat purposes by player character, companions or NPCs. All of these items have variety of effects ranging from dealing damage to inflicting status effects and creating surfaces or even providing additional lasting bonuses.
In both Classic Edition and Definitive Edition there are 5 types of magical items: Runes, Skillbooks, Scrolls, Grenades and Arrows. In Definitive Edition with the release of the Gift Bag: Song Of Nature features: Herb Gardens and Crafter's Kit a new kinds of grenades and skillbooks have been added to the game.
Depending on their effects, every item with the exception of runes and skillbooks, can be empowered by investing points in abilities and talents that either: increase damage, range or prolong the effects of inflicted status effects.
Note: Due to slightly differing type of usage and overall utility the arrows and grenades have been moved to Munitions page.
Runes

[edit | edit source]Runes are a type of magical items that can be crafted and inserted into equipment in order to provide specialised bonuses that depend on the type and size of the rune and the equipment it is inserted into. All runes can be inserted and removed from equipment as many times as needed. Each rune insertion fills 1 rune slot and all equipment can have a maximum of 3 rune slots.
All runes can be upgraded through crafting by combining two runes of the same size and type alongside Pixie Dust, which is also used to make the runes in the first place. Doing so will increase its size and effectiveness (this can be done until rune reaches the "Giant" size). Besides upgrading its effectiveness, all runes can be granted additional property by combining them with either Rune Frame of Power or Mystical Rune Frame. Note that once combined it will be impossible to both remove the frame and upgrade the rune.

Scrolls

Scrolls are a type of magical items that can be mostly crafted and used in and outside of combat in order to cast spells. Unlike runes, scrolls can be used only once before they disappear, unlike learnt spells they require only action points (this especially includes spells that utilise source points) in order to be cast. All of these with the exception of source spell curse can be combined with blank skill books of corresponding type in order to create a proper skillbook.
The action point cost of using scrolls can be lowered by 1 point if character has Ambidextrous talent. Scrolls are also affected by Far Out Man talent.
