Scoundrel is a combat ability, based on non-magical skill known as roguery that is essential for learning and casting Scoundrel skills in Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Description

[edit | edit source]

Characteristics

[edit | edit source]

Scoundrel combat ability allows character to use more effectively their weapons, focusing on speed, mobility and honing the destructiveness of critical attacks.

Scoundrel combat ability is by default used by 3 preset classes. The Witch, which is a warrior preset class, who uses Scoundrel alongside Necromancer combat ability. The Rogue relies additionaly on Dual Wielding combat ability in addition to Scoundrel. The Shadowblade utilises Scoundrel alongside Polymorph combat ability.

Scoundrel on its own offers 1 support skill, 1 pure mobility skill, 1 summon skill and 12 offensive skills. Craftable skills that include Scoundrel offer 6 supportive skills and 2 offensive skills. Overall Scoundrel offers 1 mobility skill, 1 summon skill, 7 support skills, 14 offensive skills.

Scoundrel ability on its own boosts movement speed (the distance a character may walk per 1 Action Point) and Critical Multiplier per point. It does not increase damage done by Scoundrel skills. In order to learn all Scoundrel skills, the character needs 5 points in Scoundrel (either by investment or by bonuses from items).

Level Movement Speed Critical Modifier Level Movement Speed Critical Modifier

1 + 0.3 + 5 % 2 + 0.6 + 10 %
3 + 0.9 + 15 % 4 + 1.2 + 20 %
5 + 1.5 + 25 % 6 + 1.8 + 30 %
7 + 2.1 + 35 % 8 + 2.4 + 40 %

Damage of Scoundrel Skills

[edit | edit source]

Damage in Divinity: Original Sin 2 is calculated through this exact formula: Damage = (Base Damage) x (1 + Elemental Bonus%) x (1 + Attribute Bonus% + Weapon Skill Bonus% + Misc Bonuses% [if attack]) x (1 + High Ground Bonus% + Crit Bonus%) x ( 1 + Misc Bonus% [if spell])

Due to skills under Scoundrel ability being weapon-based skills they all use the following formula for damage: Damage = (Base Damage) x (1 + Elemental Bonus%) x (1 + Attribute Bonus% + Weapon Skill Bonus% + Misc Bonuses%) x (1 + High Ground Bonus% + Crit Bonus%)

Therefore the most crucial elements for damage of Scoundrel skills themselves are: Level of the caster, Warfare ability, Finesse attribute, High ground bonus and Critical Hit bonus.

Scoundrel skills RELY on the base damage done by weapons. Weapons also additionaly affect damage done if they provide boost to any of the corresponding damage dealt. If weapon grants bonus to Warfare it will improve physical damage done when that weapon is equipped.

Surfaces and Status Effects

[edit | edit source]

Scoundrel ability skills focus on the mobility and effectiveness of critical attacks. In combat those who rely on such ability use their skills of subterfuge to deal decisive blows and weaken their enemies, whilst swiftly relocating to more advantegous position. Through skill Blessed Smoke Cloud, character may created a blessed cloud of smoke that will grant all who stand in it invisibility.

Scoundrel skills, like skills from other combat abilities are also capable of inflicting both harmful and beneficial status effects. Below is a table listing all effects caused by Scoundrel combat ability skills and craftable skills.

Scoundrel Skills

[edit | edit source]

Ability Based

[edit | edit source]

Following tables and sub-sections show Scoundrel skills that can be learnt by character if they have enough point in Scoundrel ability. Note that as these are weapon-based skills it is not possible to craft either scrolls or skillbooks for them. In base game (without cheats) skills from 9 level onward (Adept, Expert and Master tiers) can be gained only after escaping Reaper's Eye island.

Each skill belongs to a tier that is determined through characters level that determines whether it can be found and purchased and requires certain level in Scoundrel ability in order to memorise the skill. Higher Tier skills may require more memory in order to use them in combat, this especially applies to spells that require Source in order to cast them.

Craftable

[edit | edit source]

Following skillbooks are classified as craftable for they can be obtained only by crafting them. They cannot be bought from any trader in the game. However it is possible to get them as quest reward or find them as random loot.

Base skillbooks are obtained whenever non-source Scoundrel skillbook is combined with another non-source skillbook. Resulting skillbook will be a mix of both skillbooks and will require investment in both combat abilities under which the skillbooks belong. Example: In order to learn and cast Sabotage, character needs 1 point in both Pyrokinetic and Scoundrel combat abilities.

Source skillbooks are obtained whenever non-source Scoundrel skillbook is combined with source skillbook and vice versa. One way or another there has to be source skillbook involved in crafting otherwise the resulting book will be non-source skillbook. Like base craftable skillbooks these also cannot be bought from traders in game.

Outside of player accesible and craftable skills, there are skills exclusive to NPCs that are also clasiffied as Scoundrel. Some of these are also accessible in Game Master Mode.

Items

[edit | edit source]

While, the Scoundrel combat ability does not affect damage done (only provides bonus to Critical Modifier) its skills scale only with Warfare, as such it may be paired with items that deal physical damage this includes arrows and grenades.

Ammunition

[edit | edit source]

Following arrows and grenades are magical items that can be used both in and outside of combat to cause physical damage. All of the following arrows and grenades are empowered by Warfare combat ability. Note that in order to use arrows, character must have bow or crossbow equipped.

Equipment

[edit | edit source]

Scoundrel combat ability is best paired with weapons that cause physical damage. Considering the weapon requirement the most adequate weapons are daggers which are neccessary for many Scoundrel skills. Since these skills cause physical damage it is recommended to pair Scoundrel equipment with equipment that grants bonus to Warfare. Note that daggers rely on Finesse attribute.

Runes

[edit | edit source]

All equipment that has rune slots can be inserted with runes that will grant them additional properties. Most important runes for all who rely on Scoundrel combat ability is the Masterwork Rune and the Thunder Rune.

The Masterwork Rune increases physical damage when inserted into weapon. However it will increase File:Physical Armour Icon.png Physical Armour if inserted into armour instead. Lastly, if inserted into necklace or ring, it will increase File:Magic Armour Icon.png Magic Armour. Mystical Masterwork Rune of any size provides 1 point bonus to either Constitution (if inserted into armour), Wits (if inserted into weapon) and Memory (if inserted into any necklace or ring) alongside its base effect. Masterwork Rune of Power of any size will always provide bonus to Strength (depending on its size) whenever inserted into any equipment.

The Thunder Rune increases air damage when inserted into weapon. However it will increase File:Air Resistance Icon.png Air Resistance if inserted into armour instead. Lastly, if inserted into necklace or ring, it will increase Dodging. Mystical Thunder Rune of any size provides 1 point bonus to either Scoundrel (if inserted into armour), Dual Wielding (if inserted into weapon) and Aerotheurge (if inserted into any necklace or ring) alongside its base effect. Thunder Rune of Power of any size will always provide bonus to Finesse (depending on its size) whenever inserted into any equipment.
