Armour is both the equipment inhabitants of Rivellon wear to protect themselves and the value which indicates how much damage they can take before their Vitality will be reduced. With the exception of Piercing Damage, which will always damage Vitality, armour protects from almost all types of damage from nearly all manner of sources.
There are two types of Armour in Divinity: Original Sin 2; Physical armour which protects from physical damage and Magic armour which protects from elemental damage.
Physical Armour
[edit | edit source]Physical armour is what protects character from physical attacks done by swords, unenchanted arrows, physical hazards and offensive necromancer spells utilising blood. It is the most commonly utilised by Warrior classes due to their need to engage their foes in close combat. By default all manner of equipment, save for jewellery, provides atleast some amount of Physical armour.
Acquisition
[edit | edit source]Physical armour is easier to acquire than Magic armour, thanks to it being present in all gear except weapons, necklaces and rings. Other means of acquiring physical armour, albeit temporarily, includes ingesting potions, food and the usage of spells and blessed surfaces. Out of surfaces. Only blessed oil surface will provide physical armour through Fortified status.

Magic Armour
[edit | edit source]Magic armour is what protects the character from nearly all types of offensive magic and elemental hazzards such as fire surface, electrified water surface, poison etc. The only exception is necromancer magic which utilises blood to deal physical damage and piercing damage which bypasses it. Out of surfaces only cursed poison (acid) surface and cursed blood surface ignore magic armour since these are resisted by physical armour.

Types of Protective Equipment

[edit | edit source]Robes are the lightest armour type on Rivellon and as such are mostly worn by Mages. This type of armour relies on Intelligence attribute in order to be succesfully used. While this type of armour gives the highest protection against magical damage, it does little against physical damage.
Light Armour
[edit | edit source]Light armour is the second lightest armour type on Rivellon, which is worn mostly by Survirvors. This type of armour relies on Finesse attribute in order to be worn. Unlike robes they offer more protection from physical damage, but give less protection against magical damage. Therefore they offer more balanced protection at the expense of the amount of said protection.
Heavy Armour
[edit | edit source]Heavy armour is, as its name implies, the heaviest armour type on Rivellon. Due to its heavyness and unrivalled protection agaisnt physical damage it is worn by Warriors who need large amount of Strength in order to wear it. While heavy armour is excellent against physical damage, it offers minimal protection against magic damage and elemental hazards.

Note that, besides unique rarity armour, all of the values shown in the tables are examples. This applies especially to all equipment from Common to Divine rarity, which may have different additional properties, besides differing armour values which scales with level and rarity of equipment. In case of crafted equipment, its armour and level is derived from the crafters level.
