Non-player characters

From dos2.wiki

For a full list of characters by location, see Category:Characters. For playable companions, see Companions.

Non-player characters (NPCs) are characters not controlled by the player. They populate the world of Rivellon and range from friendly companions and traders to hostile enemies encountered throughout the four acts.

Types of NPC

edit

NPCs can be divided into several archetypes that are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Companions

edit
Main article: Companions

Origin Companions

edit

Origin companions are playable characters with rich backstories and personal quests. They can be recruited on the Merryweather and at Fort Joy, and each may also be selected as the player's main character during character creation.

The six origin companions are: Fane, Ifan ben-Mezd, Lohse, Beast, Sebille, and The Red Prince.

Mercenaries

edit

Mercenaries are additional companions hired from Sergeant Zrilla aboard The Lady Vengeance starting from Act Two. They have preset classes and abilities but can be customised via the Magic Mirror.

Temporary Companions

edit

Temporary companions join the party under specific circumstances and leave once certain conditions are met. Examples include Alexandar (in the Arena of the One) and Saheila (after defeating Roost Anlon).

Traders

edit

Traders are NPCs with expanded inventories and gold reserves who buy and sell goods. They are commonly found in settlements such as Fort Joy, Driftwood, and Arx. Some companions, such as Fane and Lohse, can also serve as traders with the right civil abilities.

Notable traders include Fara, Tarquin, Bree, and Jawbone.

Questgivers

edit

Many NPCs across Rivellon offer quests to the party. Some quests are given through dialogue, while others are triggered by discovering items, overhearing conversations, or encountering specific situations.

Hostile NPCs

edit

Hostile NPCs are adversaries encountered during exploration and quests. They belong to various factions and creature types. Almost any NPC can become hostile if sufficiently provoked.

Faction NPCs

edit

Many NPCs belong to the major factions of Rivellon:

Divine Order
The dominant religious and military organisation, led by Alexandar. Internally divided into:
Black Ring
Cultists who serve the God King. They appear primarily in Act Three and Act Four as major enemies.
Sworn
Beings who have sworn their souls to the God King in exchange for power. With few exceptions, always hostile to the Godwoken.

Common Citizens

edit

These NPCs populate settlements and the wider world, creating a sense of a living environment. They often have limited dialogue but may provide lore, side quests, or items. They appear as members of the various races of RivellonHumans, Elves, Dwarves, and Lizards.
