Undead (Talent)
More actions
Undead is an innate racial talent, for undead characters.
Overview
editUndead reverses the effect of healing and poison on the character. Conventional healing – such as Restoration, First Aid, and Hydrosophist healing spells – deals damage to undead characters instead of restoring vitality. Conversely, poison restores vitality rather than dealing damage. It does not consume a talent point.
This inversion also applies to healing from consumables: regular health potions harm undead characters, while poison potions heal them. Standing in poison surfaces restores vitality, whereas standing in healing surfaces (such as water blessed into holy water) deals damage. The Leech talent, which normally heals when standing in blood, functions normally for undead characters.
Undead characters also gain access to Play Dead, the undead racial skill, which allows them to feign death to disengage from combat or cause enemies to ignore them.
Strategy
- The poison healing mechanic makes Geomancer an excellent school for undead characters, as many Geomancer spells create poison surfaces that double as healing zones.
- Contamination is particularly valuable – it converts nearby surfaces into poison, simultaneously creating a healing pool for the undead character and a hazard for living enemies.
- Poison Dart and Poison Wave can be cast on the undead character or their position for self-healing while dealing damage to enemies.
- The Elemental Affinity talent synergises well with an undead Geomancer, as standing in a poison surface (to heal) also reduces the AP cost of all Geomancer spells by 1.
- Undead characters must avoid friendly Hydrosophist healing spells. In a mixed party, careless area-of-effect healing such as Healing Ritual can damage an undead ally.
- The Play Dead racial skill can be used to safely skip a turn while repositioning allies, or to break enemy targeting in difficult encounters.
Notes
edit- The internal talent ID is `Zombie`.
