Burning (Status)

More actions
Burning is a status effect in Divinity: Original Sin 2 that deals fire damage to the afflicted character each turn.
Overview
editBurning is a negative status effect that deals fire damage at the start of each affected turn. It is one of the most commonly encountered damaging statuses in the game, caused by fire surfaces, fire spells, and various fire-based attacks.
Burning is blocked by magic armour. While magic armour remains, the status cannot be applied. The Torturer talent bypasses this restriction, allowing Burning to be applied through magic armour.
Effects
edit- Deals fire damage each turn based on the source's level and statistics.
- Duration is typically 2 turns unless modified.
- Contact with water or rain removes the Burning status.
- Standing on a fire surface reapplies Burning each turn.
Sources
editBurning can be inflicted by:
- Fire surfaces – created by fire spells, exploding barrels, or environmental hazards
- Pyrokinetic skills such as Searing Daggers, Fireball, and Laser Ray
- Fire arrows and fire grenades
- Some Voidwoken and demon enemies
Removal
edit- Contact with water or rain clears the status
- Bless converts fire surfaces into blessed fire, which applies a beneficial status instead
- Cryogenic Stasis renders the character invulnerable, preventing further damage
- Magic armour restoration prevents re-application
Interactions
edit- When Burning is applied to a character who is also standing in a poison surface, the surface ignites, potentially causing an explosion.
- Burning can be upgraded to Necrofire through the use of Curse, which cannot be removed by conventional means.
- The Demon talent grants +15% fire resistance and +10 maximum fire resistance, reducing Burning damage significantly.
Notes
edit- Burning is one of the statuses affected by the Torturer talent, which allows it to bypass armour and extends its duration by one turn.
- The internal status ID is `BURNING`.
