*A certain rueful tone enters Cranley’s text in this short piece about the various hunters and rangers he has come across during his time wandering in the wilderness. A couple of them, he notes, he even nearly met (although generally in the dark corner of a tavern, never in the woods). He at least seems grateful for the fact that none of them sent an arrow his way.*
