Civil Abilities
Civil abilities are non-combat abilities that affect a character's interactions with the world outside of battle in Divinity: Original Sin 2. They are divided into three categories: craftsmanship, personality, and nasty deeds.
Overview
[edit | edit source]Civil abilities are levelled using civil ability points, which are gained on each level-up. Unlike combat abilities, civil abilities are not shared across the party – each character manages their own civil ability investments independently. Only the highest value among party members is used for passive effects such as Lucky Charm and Bartering.
Points can be redistributed freely via the magic mirror aboard the Lady Vengeance from Act Two onward, or from Act One with the Fort Joy Magic Mirror gift bag feature enabled.
Craftsmanship
[edit | edit source]Craftsmanship abilities relate to knowledge and mental utility.
| Ability | Description | Effect per point |
|---|---|---|
| Loremaster | Allows identifying enemies and items. Increasing Loremaster allows identifying higher-level items without an identifying glass. | Identifies items up to the invested level; examining enemies reveals more information |
| Telekinesis | Allows moving items telepathically regardless of weight. | +4 metres range |
Personality
[edit | edit source]Personality abilities affect trade, luck, and social interactions.
| Ability | Description | Effect per point |
|---|---|---|
| Bartering | Improves trade prices. Traders' items become cheaper and the character's items become more valuable. | Improved buy and sell prices |
| Lucky Charm | Increases the likelihood of finding extra treasure in containers. | Improved chance of bonus loot; reward quality improves up to level 5, beyond which only activation frequency increases |
| Persuasion | Improves the character's ability to convince others in dialogue. Also increases base attitude with strangers. | +5 base attitude with NPCs; improved persuasion check chances |
Nasty deeds
[edit | edit source]Nasty deeds abilities cover stealth and theft.
| Ability | Description | Effect per point |
|---|---|---|
| Sneaking | Determines how well the character can sneak without being detected. Shrinks NPC sight cones and improves movement speed while sneaking. | Reduced detection radius; faster sneaking movement |
| Thievery | Improves lockpicking and pickpocketing. To pick locks, use a lockpick or interact with a locked door or container. To pickpocket, interact with a character while sneaking. | The amount of gold that can be pickpocketed is approximately doubled. |
Notes
[edit | edit source]- It is most efficient to specialise each party member in one or two civil abilities rather than spreading points across all characters.
- Bartering and Lucky Charm use the highest value in the party, so only one character needs to invest in them.
- Persuasion only applies to the character initiating the dialogue, so it is typically concentrated on the party leader.
- Thievery only applies to the character performing the action.
- The All Skilled Up talent grants 1 bonus civil ability point and 1 combat ability point immediately.
