Background

Birdie, a hound subjected to mistreatment and fed tainted meat in an attempt to transform him into a source hound, resides within Fort Joy Prison. He can be found in the Houndmaster's bedroom, connected to the Houndmaster's Room.

Birdie laments the irreparable corruption of his mind due to his indoctrination training and expresses a desire for peace. The Elaborate Cage Key, which unlocks his cage, can be found on a desk near the bed in the same room.

Freeing Birdie from his cage rewards you with 1000 XP. Birdie will attack unless a character possesses the Pet Pal talent. The following checks may successfully persuade Birdie:

  • [Strength]: Persuasion level ≥2 required, irrespective of Strength score
  • [Intelligence]: Persuasion level ≥1 required, regardless of Intelligence score
  • [Constitution]: Persuasion level ≥1 required, regardless of Constitution score
  • [Finesse]: Finesse score of ≥14 automatically succeeds, even with 0 Persuasion. Otherwise, Persuasion level ≥1 is required

If persuasion is successfull, Birdie will leave as a free dog. Alternatively, the player may agree to put Birdie down at the dog's request. Successfully persuading Birdie from turning (or killing him at his request) grants 1400 XP.
